About Your Host
Dene Croft is past president and senior Federation of Canadian Artists member.
Dene has always believed that by the time an artist turns professional, they are a thousand influences deep. His great influences include Tamara De Lempicka, Edward Hopper, and Gustav Klimt. With endless respect and admiration for the ground these artists broke for future painters, Dene pays homage to them daily in his own work, all while constantly pushing forward with his unique sense of aesthetics and storytelling.
Fifteen years ago, Dene reached a pivotal point in his journey as a painter. Drawing on his interest in metal leaf and gilding, he abandoned his high-key palette and shifted his focus toward creating ambiance and atmosphere in his work. This transition led him to become less concerned with the drama and theatricality of his former body of art-deco-inspired paintings. Despite this evolution, his interest in the human form remained steadfast—he concentrated on creating "human studies" rather than traditional "portraits."
