Painting Rocks: Acrylics & Gel Medium with Peri-Laine
About This Experience
This demo will give the acrylic artist insight into approaching rocks in their plein-air or studio paintings. Join Peri as she shares tips on creating colourful textured rocks using acrylic paint, gel medium and a palette knife. The natural textures and colours of rocks can entice the landscape artist to be creative with their acrylic paints and mediums, and beautiful results can be achieved!
Materials
OPUS Essential Heavy Body Acrylics: Hansa Yellow Light, Hansa Yellow Medium or Cadmium Yellow Medium, Quinacridone Red (or Alizarin Crimson or Red-Rose Deep), Cadmium Red Medium, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Titanium White, Paynes Grey, Mars Black
GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic: Quinacridone Burnt Orange
GOLDEN Molding Paste - Hard
Opus Acrylic Gloss Medium or Golden Satin Glazing Medium
OPUS Legato or Denman Brushes - Flats #8-10
Sinoart Canvas Pad 9”x 12” - 1 sheet taped to a piece of coroplast
Additional Materials
Scrap pieces of card stock, watercolour paper, etc., are used for colour testing and notes, two large water containers, a spray bottle, cotton rags, apron, green painter's tape, and a hairdryer.

About Your Host
Peri-Laine is an art specialist with a degree in fine arts from UC Berkeley, a teaching certificate from the University of British Columbia, and a post-baccalaureate diploma in fine arts education from Simon Fraser University. Peri-Laine is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Burnaby Artists Guild.
After teaching for thirty-five years in the public school system, Peri-Laine now sketches and paints ‘plein air,’ works at home in her studio, and teaches art classes to adults in various mediums in her community.
