Take your mixed media work outside! These textured boards feature excellent erasability. They are ideal for use with acrylics, watercolour, pen, and pencil – let your creativity loose.

The rigid packs of ten boards are held in place with a thick coating of glue along the spine. Once you're ready to move onto your next plein air piece, simply cut along the top edge, and free your masterpiece!

Art boards

The surface is too rough. Not really ready for painting.

Using for watercolour

As a watercolour wine and paint night instructor I have been using the mixed media art boards for my classes.
I love that the boards are stiff and don’t buckle and the class participants take home a painting that feels more sturdy and substantial than just a piece of watercolour paper.
I use the mixed media boards because the watercolour boards are hard to come by. They work good for watercolour if you don’t need a full wet wash over the whole board as they don’t hold the water quite the same as watercolour paper.

Canson Pleinaire art boards

I really love them! Light but sturdy enough to hold their shape.

Plein Air ready - Acrylic/Watercolor/Gouache

I have used the Canson Boards for travel and studio work the last couple of years. I like to cut smaller sizes, prime again with gesso texture or tint with a mid-tone ground. VERY happy with the rigid weight of these boards - especially with several packed in my pochade box. Now also working in traditional Gouache again - I have had success with spraying, coating and varnishing small works with no warp or surface separation. Great product.
