About This Experience

Join Wendy Welch and learn how to use the spontaneity and surprise of collage to create exciting watercolours. The focus will be on creating geological landscapes comprised of striations in the earth. Using collage, you will discover a range of colours, patterns and textures you would not think of on your own. Basic collage techniques will be covered, as well as how to translate collage into an expressive watercolour painting.

About Your Host

Wendy Welch is a Victoria-based artist whose work most often revolves around explorations of the natural world, including biology, geology and botany. She receives a BFA (with Honours) from Concordia University in Montreal and an MFA from UVic. Wendy’s work has been displayed in Canada and the USA, including solo exhibitions at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and Open Space. More recently, she exhibited an installation of 103 watercolour paintings of different sizes called “World Without Ice” at the Victoria Arts Council. Wendy is Executive Director of the Vancouver Island School of Art, which she founded in 2004.
