Thank you for joining us for the Opus Daily Practice Challenge 2025

Every February, artists across Canada come together for the Opus Daily Practice Challenge, committing to 28 days of creativity. Whether sketching, painting, sculpting, or experimenting with new techniques, participants embraced the joy of daily art-making.

A Month of Creativity & Community

This year, artists of all levels shared their progress using #OpusDailyPractice , inspiring one another with diverse interpretations of the daily prompts. From detailed portraits to abstract explorations, the challenge fostered growth, discipline, and creative breakthroughs.

Inspiration & Takeaways

Many participants discovered new styles, built confidence, and strengthened their artistic routines. The challenge served as a reminder that creativity flourishes with consistency—and a supportive community makes all the difference.

Linda Lewis Strength. Graphite drawing of a Grandmother's hands and mixed media drawing paper. I remember my Grandmother's hands told of her strength on her journey of living and working on a farm. The beautiful reference photo was by Eileen Porter Allen from Free Reference photos for artists.

Margot Fraser Whimsy What would a Canadian House Hippo do on a day off? Why, he'd take a long nap on a mossy patch under some toadstools in the woods, of course! Watercolour on Canson XL Watercolor 140lb paperPhoto inspiration: Hippo: Günter Rohe from Pixabay, Toadstools: Hans Veth from Unsplash

Margot Fraser Strength. Talk about strength; may I introduce you to the cassowary? A native to Australia, the cassowary is rightfully considered the most dangerous bird in the world! Each 3-toed foot has a dagger-like claw on the inner toe that is up to 4 inches long. Powerful legs help the cassowary run up to 50 km per hour through the dense forest underbrush. It can also jump nearly 7 feet (2 meters) straight up into the air and swim like a champ, so the bird is quite good at fending off threats or escaping danger. I have a feeling the one I painted is just trying to escape the multi-coloured bubbles I added. 😂Watercolour on Prism Studio Watercolour 140lb paperPhoto inspiration: xiSerge from Pixabay

Sheila Smart  Detail. Let me introduce myself. I’m Rupert, and this is my story. Last week, I noticed that a family of moths had made their home in my fur. I don’t mind them living with me. They are quiet neighbours. They are welcome to stay. Apparently, they moved in four months ago. I just didn’t notice them until now. I’m not a stickler for detail. This ends my story. Thank you, Rupert.*fun fact* Sloth fur harbours a whole ecosystem made up of algae, fungi, moths, and insects.

asiddesign Challenged myself to the #opusdailypractice challenge. Each day you make art related to the prompt of the day provided by @opusartsupplies (or you go rogue and choose your own prompt.) Today’s prompt was Gaze, so what better day to practice drawing eyes? I love drawing eyes. Usually just single eyes, cause then I don’t get caught up in having to draw a whole face, which takes a lot more time, skill and hard work. So just one eye. I can be satisfied with being able to identify that person from a single eye. I recently learned on a documentary I was watching (about a boho designer in New Orleans) that people used to have portraits done of a single eye to be given as a memento to a loved one. A more attainable way of gifting a self portrait back in the days before cameras existed everywhere. It’s sweet, a gesture like a single rose versus a whole bouquet. So now I feel like I can lean into the desire to draw single eyes. I can see its value in a whole new way. #drawingeyes #eyeportrait #eyeportraiture #opusdailypractice #odp2025

unicyclecreative #opusdailypractice Prompt: Imagination I did a #pittpen sketch of my mom the other day and then got thinking of all the wild experiences she had in her life and how those might play out in memory. From working craft fairs with my dad to flying to Ottawa to work on First Nations policy to bring Jaxons grandma to late night beer and music parties back in the day. Tried to contrast the original sketch tinted B/W with a Doodleart 70’s style. Better concept than execution but what a trip. #moleskinesketchbook

unicyclecreative #opusdailypractice Prompt: Strength This is a memory sketch of a senior I see at the gym sometimes. Guy must be 80+ and he holds this cantilevered squat with the weights for like 3 minutes. #watercolorandpencil (boosted a little in editing) #moleskinesketchbook
