Very interesting almost velvety texture

I've been playing around with this Stonehenge oil paper, and I quite like it. It's got almost a velvety texture once you start painting in oils on it, it feels quite luxurious to paint on. I did experiment with putting one layer of gesso on as I sometimes like to do a sgraffito effect, and it works better with this paper with one layer of gesso rather than the bare paper. But it's great at not leaking mediums to the other side, I painted a section with medium before laying down my paints, and it didn't soak through to the back like one type of canvas paper I tried has. The medium does feel like it absorbs into the surface a bit rather than purely sit on top, but there was no staining on the back of the paper from it coming through, and the paint behaved really well on the surface.
