In just under ninety minutes, Teju will show how to mix skin tones from primary colours, interpret your reference image, and simplify the forms and features of the face. She’ll explain both the characteristics of gouache and technical skills like layering, blending, and water control that you can apply to portraits and beyond.

About Your Host
Teju Abiola is a painter and illustrator based in Buffalo, New York who loves art history, materials, and processes. Primarily fascinated by watercolor’s fluid positionality and the intimacy of portraiture, she uses them to explore color, perception, identity, and representation. She has a BFA in Illustration with a minor in Visual Development from the Ringling College of Art and Design, and she is currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Art from the University at Buffalo. In addition to being a Winsor & Newton demo artist, she works as an illustrator at Hallmark Cards.
