In the ocean's vast depths, the imagination can dwell, and has for many a long year. On old maps they wrote ″Here be monsters″. In this colouring book, there also be treasures, both natural and imaginary.
You can also participate in your own little treasure hunt; a number of scenes contain one or more objects hidden in it. You can track down pirate loot or lost treasure from shipwrecks.
From ships to shells, fish to fronds of seaweed, mermaids to molluscs; all the imagery is highly stylized, ornamented and lovingly detailed. The scenes include full page and full double-page spreads, single motifs on one page or multiple motifs trailing across two. There is also a fold-out piece at the back of the book with a different scene printed on either side.
Printed in black line on high-quality slightly ivory tinged paper suitable for a wide range of coloured media: pen, marker, crayon and pencil.
This is the third colouring book by Johanna Basford, who also illustrated the bestselling Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest.
