Painting The Clothed Figure

About This Class

In this course, you will create a dynamic painting by capturing the figure in space and focusing on the intricate interplay of the human form and clothing. Learn to paint different types of fabric accurately and capture what clothing says about the personality of your model.

You will create a complete figure painting, starting with a detailed underpainting, followed by an integration of broken brushwork, blending, tiling, and lost and found edges. Using basic colour theory, you will explore how skin tones relate to clothing, and how the anatomy of different folds echoes underlying human anatomy.

Attendees of this course will acquire greater confidence in their figure paintings, both in representing the human form and in bringing out the unique character of clothing in their artwork.
