Not all watercolour pigments are created equal. They don't all granulate naturally. Use Winsor & Newton Granulation Medium to induce granulation in pigments that wouldn't normally give this characteristic effect. For even more pronounced results, use it with naturally granulating pigments to enhance the granulation action.

Pigments that granulate naturally are cerulean blue (genuine), French ultramarine, manganese blue, raw sienna and others.

  • For best results, dilute colour generously with medium alone
  • Always work with painting horizontal position
  • Paper texture affects granulation results; use rough for strongest effect
  • Rated safe for normal studio use

I take it back

I find that this doesn't work at all. I don't see any granulation when I mix with regular watercolour paints. Am I doing something wrong? If not, i'd like to get a refund!

after further exploration, I find that it does work well- I was testing on cheap paper; it works well after all!
