This spray fixative is excellent for protecting your graphite, charcoal or pastel drawings or sketches from smudging and flaking. After the spray has dried, it is possible to work back over the surface to add more layers to the work. For best results, always apply a series of fine coats, rather than one heavy one.

Customers praised this fixative spray for effectively protecting charcoal, pencil, and graphite artwork from smudging with a "fine even spray." Many noted it's a "staple" for sealing sketches without darkening colors. However, concerns included strong lingering odor, chemical safety, packaging issues with lids, and altered pastel texture after application.

I use this spray mainly to keep my charcoal sketches in place while I do my block in and if I am not 100% sure my painting is done (you know how that is!!) I have used it for years without any issues whatsoever.

Would strongly advise against buying this again

Would strongly advise against buying this again. It is liver-toxic (acetaldehyde) and has a smell that lingers for a long time (propane and butane) in the area it’s used (hours) as well as on the surface sprayed (weeks). It also stains paper surfaces. I stopped using it after two applications and am now looking for a more acceptable product. Would value your advice on that.
Hope these comments help.

Krylon spray fixative

Always a good product, great for sealing under-drawing when I don’t want my paint picking up graphite.

I have no idea what it's like, because I couldn't get the lid off.

I found it changed the chalky nature of the original pastel colouring so it looked more like tempera…I’m not sure I liked that. Is there a product that will preserve the chalky nature of pastel work? Sometimes that is the best look for a piece. Or could it have been my application of the product?

Krylon workable fix review

I think it basically protects my work from smudging however in terms of providing tooth to the art work for further application of colour pencil it really is useless in my opinion. Even when applying 3 or more coats it hardly gives me extra tooth. The fixative works well in coating the artwork without changing or darkening the colour and I do like the price I paid since a lot of fixatives nowadays are very expensive.
