Gamsol Odourless Mineral Spirits – the safest solvents for oil painters.
The safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise.
Thinning oil colors: A little goes a long way; stiff oil colors relax immediately when a little Gamsol is added. Be careful not to thin oil colors too much with solvent alone, this can compromise the ability of the paint to form a paint film.
Modifying painting mediums: Gamblin's Galkyd line of painting mediums are formulated with Gamsol, so they readily accept Gamsol as a thinning agent. Note: Gamsol should not be added to painting mediums made with natural resins (dammar, copal, mastic). They require strong solvents such as turpentine.
Studio clean-up: brushes, palettes, palette knives, etc.: Gamsol achieves this level of performance and safety as it is made for products and processes such as cosmetics, hand cleaners, and cleaning food service equipment.
Safety Note: While odourless mineral spirits are safer to use, adequate ventilation is still required.

I had already varnished a painting that needed to be reworked and was told that Gamsol will take off the Gamvar so can be reworked. And it worked!!

Gamsol is an excellent product, but it is vastly overpriced. At 80 dollars a gallon it makes Gasoline look like a free gift. I can see no justification whatsoever for this stuff costing this much.

i am prejudiced as I really like the Gamblin products.
I have multiple chemical sensitivity and normally don't use solvents in oil painting. I tested this and didn't have a reaction. After 20 years of oil painting it's exciting to experiment with some new techniques. I like the flow it gives my paint.
