Galkyd thins oil colors and increases transparency and gloss.
When used in greater proportions with oil color, Galkyd will level brush-strokes, creating an enamel-like surface. Galkyd is Gamblin's fastest-drying painting medium. Thin layers will be touch-dry in approximately 24 hours.

This is a good product, it has just about the right drying time for my needs. I usually cut it with a little odorless thinner to keep it from gelling over during multi-day paint sessions. When it does gel, it scrapes and lifts out of my tin with a palette knife.
Great medium for oils. I mixed it with cold wax and water soluble oil paint to speed drying time.
The staff is always lovely, super helpful, and very knowledgeable about art, supplies, and framing. I highly recommend Opus downtown!
Have been using Gamblin products almost exclusively for close to 30 years, essential to my painting practice. What bugs me though, is that Gamblin’s largest sizes of Galkyd aren’t coming in to Vancouver right now, and I hope that situation changes. Also regret the disappearance of Gamblin Fast Matte pigments up here, even though some of the last ones were so stiff they were hard to squeeze out of the tube. But they’re so useful!
