MEET CLAIRE BUCKLEY

Based in Brooklyn, New York, Claire sets out to connect her world with the spiritual realm. Drawing inspiration from grief and reflection, her abstract, ethereal paintings focus on refracted light and prisms, as she says, "capturing everyday magic". Color has always been integral to Claire's work, with holographic effects and diffused rainbow conjuring up a mesmeric, psychedelic mood. (check out Claire's Instagram)

"After losing my father to addiction at age 7, I've moved through most of my life aware of death's ever-impending presence. It's shown me pain, anger, longing - but every so often, it chooses to show me comfort. We call them fairy lights. Surprise little rainbows dancing through the room. Lifting the veil between our world, and their world for just a few magical seconds. With these works, I hope to capture the solace of those moments. The moments we feel not death's presence - but the love of people we have lost."

MEET JOHN WESTBAY

Love is at the heart of Brooklyn-based John Westbay's art. Owner of a successful barbershop in Brooklyn for five years, once he started painting, John sold his business, quit his job and has never looked back.

The artist has made a name for himself with his LOVE themed art, filled with signature three-dimensional hearts with cartoon eyes. "Love is always what inspires me directly or indirectly. Being on the train itself in New York City, the subway is a rainbow. Different colors, different shapes, sometimes they seem happy, sometimes they seem a little sad, there's a tear drop coming out. That's just straight reality. They're a reflection of myself and everybody I see around me."

MEET PATRICK DOUGHER

Born and raised in Brooklyn NY, Patrick Dougher is a self-taught artist, musician, poet, educator, art therapist and spiritual activist. He has used the arts to empower and support the socio-emotional growth and health of "at-risk" and disenfranchised youth of NYC for over 20 years. Through his art Patrick seeks to inspire and to celebrate the noble beauty and divine nature of people of African descent and to connect urban African American culture to its roots in sacred African art, spirituality and ritual.

Patrick works across a range of media, including painting, sculpture and collage, often incorporating found items, such as crushed drinks cans. Recent work includes the mixed media painting on wood series, Cease For Peace and metal sculptures made from discarded rusted items.

MEET YUNG-WU

Yung-wu is a self-taught abstract artist based in the Hudson Valley. Heavily influenced by her South Korean heritage and NYC upbringing, her work centers around the exploration of identity and fluidity of memory. Each work is created intuitively, utilizing a variety of unconventional tools, such as cardboard, battery packaging, and other found objects. Her process is a balance of spontaneity and intentionality, taking in the moment and translating that onto canvas.

Yung-wu is currently represented by Eleventh Hour Art Gallery in Brooklyn. Follow her journey on Instagram.

"Making abstract art doesn’t always come naturally and I have to regularly loosen up in between making larger works - especially if they’re for a show or a commission. Intuitive color play and mark-making is a gentle reminder to incorporate a bit play in all that I do."

MEET CHRISTINA MASSEY

Christina Massey is a mixed media artist using repurposed materials in her colorful organic abstractions. Winner of multiple awards - including a Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant in 2023 – Christina's work is full of pattern and texture, drawing on botanical influences. Her paintings and sculptures have an organic quality and include upcycled man-made items such as ribbons of deconstructed aluminum cans, fencing, fabrics, papers and cable wire. Bursting with life and energy, many escape their frame and run wild.

“My paintings are very dimensional. They can appear very plant-like, organic and wild despite their hard material surfaces. I find a lot of inspiration in environmental art which is not meant to last long at all, but simply as a moment in time that will eventually be taken over by Nature.”
