These paints can be used like standard oil paints, as a drawing tool, or for monotype printing.
R&F Pigment Sticks are formulated using only the basic traditional materials: natural wax, linseed oil, and pigment.

This is my favorite colour in acrylics and so I was thrilled to try it out in an oil stick. It is very oily and, according to R&F takes about a month to dry. However, its transparency and deep colour are worth it.

Would Use More if…
They are just waaay too expensive to work with. I’d love to use more of them, but the coverage is so little in comparison to a tube of oil paint. As a result I’ve just bought 2 to mix with oils & encaustic underlay wax. MichelleMathiasArt.com

I bought the set of six, three (pastel colors) and some singles. They apply easily, are thick and cover the canvas really well. The colors are very vibrant! They are quite smelly so ventilation is important & I put my canvas in the garage to dry. Would I buy more? Yes!

I love my sticks. They are clear colours, (though not too many) and the cover large areas in minutes in smooth layers of colour.
They are soft and buttery and you can easily take off the skin that forms when not in use with a paper towel. I am working bigger and faster with my R&Fs and even using them on 3 dimensional forms as well as on paper.

I am obsessed with RF pigment sticks
They are soft and buttery, highly pigmented and super easy to work with. I paint with Gamblin oils and use the RF pigment sticks on birch panel, 300 gsm paper, and encaustic work. I love the drawing quality and the artists ‘calligraphy’ that they provide. They can also add texture, be smoothed out and blended. The colour range is great- warning would be they are highly addictive!
I have a wide selection of oil bars/pigment sticks from various companies and each type is different. For work with oil and cold wax, and for straight oil bar painting, R and F are my go-to choice. They are more expensive, but are rich in pigment and a bit softer/juicier than any others and they are a pleasure to work with. In addition, there is an excellent selection of colours.
