Buzz Cradled Wood Panels are an economy unprimed surface perfect for practicing your acrylic painting, oil painting, encaustics, and experimenting with new techniques.
Featuring an unfinished basswood surface with pine stretcher bars, these panels are ready to be prepared for you media of choice. Coat the surface with gesso, sanding between coats for a smooth yet toothy surface. Try a clear gesso to allow the wood grain to become an integral part of your work or to use the wood as a toned ground to begin your piece.

I actually use these panels for framing -- a 6"x8" panel is the perfect size to house a 5"x7" panel on the underside (with the help of some risers depending on the thickness of the panel). I either stain or paint the cradle panel, attach hanging hardware to the back, and then mount my painting. The edges of these panels are a half inch each, so there's just enough space for the 5x7 panel. They work well, and are less expensive than a frame (of course this only works for certain sized pieces of art, but it's a good option for those on a budget or who want something simple). The attached image is a master copy of a Manet portrait in oils on 5"x7" gessobord, it came out well so I decided to frame it.

These light weight panels are ideal for my images. They don't require wiring or hangers as a simple push pin for smaller pieces does the job or if necessary two for larger pieces.
