Join Cara Bain to learn how to paint realistic and dynamic portraits using Gamblin Artist Grade Oil Paints! Discover how to mix skin tones and master the brushwork and paint application techniques that will bring your portrait to life.

Cara will demonstrate her proven method for mixing varied skin tones and share her many ‘tricks of the trade’ for portraiture. From directional brushwork to handling light and shadow, Cara will guide you through rendering even the trickiest features of the face. This demo is perfect for artists of all levels.

Gamblin Artist's Oil Paints:  Titanium White, Yellow Ochre,  Cadmium Red Light,  Alizarin Crimson,  Ultramarine Blue,  Transparent Earth Red (or Burnt Sienna),  Burnt Umber

Gamblin Refined Linseed Oil 

Gamblin Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirit

Opus Denman Brushes: Round #2, Flat #8,  Angled ¼",  ½"

Opus Fortissimo Brushes: Round 6-10

Metal Palette Knife 

Glass Palette

Canvas or Wood Panel: Prepared with three coats of white gesso

Cara Bain is a visual artist and art educator born and raised in Vancouver, BC. She creates oil paintings that combine traditional techniques with a flair for contemporary creativity. She’s known for her figurative and landscape paintings, combining natural expressiveness with unique textures of copper leaf patina. Cara has been an art instructor since 2016, teaching adults, teens and children to build a solid skill foundation and express their creative ideas. Cara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Communication and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions over her 20 years of experience as an artist.
