1974 to now

From a Tiny Frame Shop to a Thriving Artist Network

In 1974, David van Berckel opened a small picture frame business in Vancouver. His approach was simple: serve artists better. Today, we’re still independent and BC-owned, driven by that same belief—that small is powerful, and creativity deserves care.

Our People Make the Difference

Our team isn’t just trained in product knowledge—we live it. Painters, illustrators, photographers, printmakers. When you ask a question at Opus, you’re getting advice from someone who’s likely used that brush, stretched that canvas, or shot that roll of film. We’re here to help, artist to artist.

We Help You See It Through

From The First Mark

Art isn’t just about materials—it’s about process. From high-quality printing to custom frames and canvases, we support your work from first sketch to final show. Our team is here to make sure your art looks its best—every step of the way.

Community

A Place for Artists to Connect

Opus is a gathering place for creative exchange. Join free demos and workshops, explore artist interviews, and showcase your work in our galleries. Whether online or in-store, our community is here to inspire and be inspired.

Rooted in Place

We respect the Indigenous lands where we live and work, and are committed to learning from and listening to the communities around us. All our Opus locations operate on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Indigenous Peoples of British Columbia.
