A genuine mould-made printmaking paper suitable for an extensive range of printing techniques.

100% cotton rag with watermarks and deckled edges, it has a soft, cold pressed texture which is smooth but robust for soaking and stretching. Universally suitable for all printing techniques, it will soon become your go-to paper for etching, engraving, mezzotint, drypoint, collograph and all types of intaglio, relief and lithographic printing, and silkscreen and serigraph printing. It is also a beautiful paper for embossing.

The paper is bright white, internally sized, and has a weight of 300 gsm. It displays the consistent quality of a machine made paper, with the individual character of a hand made paper as it is "Made by Hahnemühle" in Germany on a mould-made paper making machine. All sheets carry the familiar rooster and Hahnemühle watermark. The raw material, the traditional manufacturing process, and the watermarks emphasize the paper's excellent quality for printing of originals and editions.

Hahnemuhle Copperplate surprisingly good replacement for BFK

I usually use BFK for intaglio but its cost is getting up there. I gave Copperplate a try and was pleasantly surprised. Although it seems to be the same weight as the BFK, it seems quite a bit rougher/thicker. My only “con” about it is that it is quite a bit more absorbent (in terms of soaking the paper prior to printing) so it needs to stay in the drying stacks longer or it will curl slightly.
