Genuine freedom and an unrivalled feel of creation.

Conté à Paris pencils are artist grade, wood-cased pastel pencils that give amateur and professional artists alike both superb depth and brilliance of colour, as well as precision lines. They are unmatched for creating details, life and portrait drawings, and are an ideal companion for the Conté crayons.

The exceptional diameter of the Conté à Paris pastel pencil (5 mm) lead is the perfect pencil companion to soft pastels; its lead is slightly harder with less pigment when details are required for small and medium size formats.

While most of the crayons in this line are lightfast, some colours may fade over time when exposed to light. Please refer to this colour chart for a complete list of lightfast ratings.

Please use suitable fixatives and frames to conserve your creations.

The Conte pencils are fine. It's unfortunate that they are so often sold out.

My favorite choice

I'v been using conte pencils for about 5 years, these are great for te finishing touches on pastel works but I use them to refine charcoal work. They also work well to define a painting too. Best texture and hold a great point.

Very difficult to sharpen. You need to sell a pencil sharpener with them that will sharpen them. None of the other pencil sharpeners you sell work. I've tried them all!

Preferred pastel pencil

These pastel pencils were great for doing fine details - exactly what I bought them for. They come in a pretty good range of colours as well. They blend and layer nicely and the white is nice and opaque - great for doing highlights. They sharpen nicely with an x-acto knife.
