About the product

Conté à Paris - Pastel Pencils

Pastel pencils have a larger-than-average core, 5 mm in diameter, which releases more pigment when used, giving you that unrivalled velvety finish. As the core is slightly harder than that of squares, pastel pencils are ideal for precision work in both small and large formats, whether for landscapes or portraits. Its velvet effect is appreciated in the creation of the drawing as well as in the rendering. Ideal selection for vibrant drawings.

The range includes 48 colours available in individual colors and curated sets. Please refer to this colour chart for a complete list of lightfast ratings.

Customers praised these pastel pencils as "great for drawing compositions quickly" and excellent for detail work. The bright colors and wood barrel design are appreciated. However, sharpening can be difficult - some customers resort to craft knives. The pencils may break slightly when sharpening but last well overall.

The conte pencils are great

The conte pencils are great, the only problem is it is very difficult to sharpen them, I use a craft knife now, and that works better. The conte crayons are really good, love the bright colors.

I use these for drawing designs on clothing

I used these for drawing designs on clothing before bleach and or fabricpainting and they work amazing! Nice having a wood barrel instead of chalky fingers for some projects. Does break a bit when sharpening but they seem to last quite well!

The Conte pencils are fine. It's unfortunate that they are so often sold out.

My favorite choice

I'v been using conte pencils for about 5 years, these are great for te finishing touches on pastel works but I use them to refine charcoal work. They also work well to define a painting too. Best texture and hold a great point.

Very difficult to sharpen. You need to sell a pencil sharpener with them that will sharpen them. None of the other pencil sharpeners you sell work. I've tried them all!

Preferred pastel pencil

These pastel pencils were great for doing fine details - exactly what I bought them for. They come in a pretty good range of colours as well. They blend and layer nicely and the white is nice and opaque - great for doing highlights. They sharpen nicely with an x-acto knife.
