Join us at Opus Granville Island for an R&F Encaustic demonstration with Megan MacDonald.
This demonstration will cover a comprehensive range of topics related to encaustic painting. We will begin with an introduction to encaustic, highlighting important aspects such as safe working temperatures. Participants will learn about appropriate fusing tools that are essential for encaustic work, along with basic studio ventilation tips and advice for setting up a safe and effective workspace. We will discuss suitable encaustic grounds and the preparation of surfaces using encaustic gesso, emphasizing the benefits of using Ampersand Encausticbord. Additionally, recommendations for equipment, including the heat gun, will be provided.
The demonstration will also explore various encaustic techniques, offering methods and helpful tips for fusing and creating surface effects. Attendees will be introduced to additional techniques such as collage, stenciling, accretion, and other creative ways to generate texture, as well as methods for image transfer and monotyping. We will address crucial clean-up procedures for materials, including proper care of brushes and palettes.
Furthermore, color mixing using R&F encaustic paint sets will be discussed, showcasing the versatility and possibilities these sets provide. To enhance the experience, there will be a "try-it" station with materials related to the demonstration, and attendees can look forward to surprise giveaways following the artist's presentation!
