The story behind Holbein Artists’ Gouache Irodori

Gouache palettes inspired by the four seasons of Japan.

Holbein was founded in Osaka in 1900. Its Irodori series gathers gouache into palettes inspired by Japan's four seasons, each with its own distinct mood.

It is a way to explore colour through the delicate shifts of the year, one palette per season.

Try it in the studio

Gouache re-wets, so plan from dark to light and keep layers thin. A little water keeps the matte finish even and stops cracking.
