Holiday Watercolour Cards with Carla Flengel
About This Experience
Carla Flegel will be joining us from Mexico to guide us through her holiday card making process! Expect some cactus inspiration from her travels and some good old snow-laden Canadian motifs.
The project images are designed for the 4x6” watercolour paper that slide perfectly into the photo frame cards, resulting in beautiful cards and less waste. If you are painting along, please have the line drawings (found below) transferred onto your surface before the class.
Carla will show you some fun ways to depict “white” snow scenes and glows from Christmas lights, how to get that ‘night sky’ and the importance of values, especially for those reds!

About Your Host
Carla Flegel is an artist whose creative journey began in childhood through sewing and crafting. Although she trained in the medical profession, she is mainly self-taught in her art. Carla's style is characterized by a spontaneous approach to watercolour, which she describes as “loose and painterly.” One of her greatest passions is teaching others how to paint, and she identifies as a ‘skills-based’ instructor. In her lessons, she focuses on demystifying the relationship between paint, paper, and water.
Her motto is: "paint small.. paint often," and she believes that creating cards is a fantastic way to practice. Carla has a particular fondness for using her sketchbooks while travelling, as they allow her to capture not only the visual aspect of a scene but also the surrounding experiences—sounds, scents, and the people she encounters. She invites others to join her in learning how to paint their own memories.
