Create watercolour and ink masterpieces while out in the field or exploring in the studio.

The Holbein Waterbrush Pen is made up of a plastic barrel and a removable synthetic brush tip. The plastic barrel can be filled with water, instead of using another container, a mixture of water and watercolour paint, or ink. Simply gently squeeze the barrel to release the liquid, and begin creating beautiful work. The brush is available in both medium and large tip sizes, making it easy for you to explore different washes, strokes, and effects.

Holbein Waterbrush - fabulous!

I use these pens a lot for travel sketching. Feels most like a real watercolour brush (Large size is equivalent to a #6 size watercolour brush). All I need is my small paint set, a couple of paper towels, and sketchbook and I’m ready to go!

No control. Only buy if you like a lot of water!

Very little control over the flow of water. I’m not sure if the one I got is defective but I have to assume they’re all like this and allow gravity to draw the water into the brush. When squeezed a fountain will appear. If you enjoy urban sketching, abstracts or loose florals this might be a brush that works well for you. Otherwise, please look into the Pentel waterbrushes. The Pentel were sold out at the local store so I got this Holbein brush instead. Typically I can get a pretty dry brush just by wiping on a paper towel but this brush’s water just doesn’t quit (which for some might be a plus). It will be difficult to get good darks, concentrated paint or controlled values with this brush and you will be more likely to get blooms. This brush is also longer than the average waterbrush which can make it less portable.
