Reimagine Your Year with “What if…?”

A note from our team at Opus Art Supplies

A new year is more than a fresh calendar—it’s a creative reset. This January, we’re here to help you return to the studio with curiosity, confidence, and a renewed sense of possibility.

January is a reactivation moment for our creative community: students back to class, professionals beginning new bodies of work, and leisure creators carving out time to explore for the joy of it.

At the centre of it all is a question artists ask constantly:

What if…?

Not a theme. A practice. A way of moving forward through small experiments—new surfaces, one unfamiliar colour, a different pace, a technique you’ve been avoiding.

Watch: Artists on Curiosity

A compilation of artists sharing how curiosity shows up in their process—and how “what if” keeps the work alive.

Why we’re leaning into this

Creativity doesn’t thrive on perfection. It thrives on curiosity.

To support that energy, we’re keeping our shelves full of materials that invite exploration, and we’re hosting events and demos designed to spark ideas and get you unstuck—online and in-store.

10 “What if” prompts to get you started

Pick one. Try it once. See what it teaches you.

  • What if I tried a completely new surface?

  • What if I added one unfamiliar colour and let it lead the way?

  • What if I explored a technique I’ve been avoiding?

  • What if I worked smaller—or much bigger—than usual?

  • What if I made something with no intention of keeping it?

  • What if I limited myself to three materials for a week?

  • What if I drew or painted with my non-dominant hand?

  • What if I revisited an old idea from a new angle?

  • What if I worked faster than feels comfortable—or slowed way down?

  • What if curiosity—not outcome—guided the process?

A simple intention for 2025

This year isn’t about doing more. It’s about going deeper—reclaiming your practice, giving yourself permission to explore, and following the questions that help you grow.

Whatever “what if…?” you’re carrying into the studio, we’re here for it—every test piece, every near-miss, every breakthrough.

Here’s to a year of exploration, experimentation, and making boldly.

By All Means, Create!
