Painting Florals in Stages with Diane Williams
About This Experience
In this demo, Diane Williams will showcase the four stages of a painting, transitioning from a vibrant first layer to a refined final stage. She will demonstrate layering colour directly onto the canvas using the alla prima technique, avoiding pre-mixing. Participants will learn to paint flower petals in full-spectrum colour without using black, grey, or brown while creating luminous effects through light and dark contrasts. The session will emphasize a limited palette of vivid colours with pure oil paint and a non-toxic cleanup using Canola oil.

About Your Host

Diane Williams has a Master's degree in Art Education from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and has been teaching art, photography, and painting to high school students for over thirty years. Presently, she teaches her four-stage Color Foundation Courses online on Saturday mornings to all ages throughout North America.
Diane has a LOVE of large-scale florals. Her petals are working meditations, opening the senses with brushwork and colour. Diane is also a successful equine painter and photographer in North America and Europe, travelling extensively to paint unique horses and wildlife in their natural habitats. As an artist, she integrates classical techniques with expressive contemporary colour while incorporating no black, brown, or gray. She captures impressions of light through layers of brilliant oil colours, wet-on-wet until finished.
Diane's studio is located on 12 acres in rural Nanton, Alberta, where she loves to paint, teach, and enjoy the company of her four horses and four cats. Diane is 45 minutes south of Calgary, Alberta.
Williams' artwork is in collections throughout Canada, the United States, Australia, and Europe.
