Perfect for works of art on paper or art board and photographs.

This frame has become renowned for its simplicity, quality of construction, and ease of reuse. For nearly 40 years, it has stood the test of time, becoming a staple item for professional artists, photographers, museums, art galleries, and schools alike.

Opus' owner, David van Berckel, developed the Opus Metal Exhibition Frame in the mid-70s, taking inspiration from the frames he saw when visiting the galleries and museums of Europe. Drawing on his engineering degree, he designed a frame that is highly functional for exhibition use, allowing users to easily change out artwork.

The Opus Metal Exhibition Frame has also become widely used in home decor as its universal quality showcases artwork in a classic style that is beyond trend.

Black / 16" x 20" / Glass

Very nice up-scale DIY frame. They nicely show off my artwork!

The frames themselves were fine, but. . .

The frames themselves were fine, but the delivery left a lot of confusion in its wake.

First, CANPAR put them on the truck to deliver, and announced that they'd be arriving later that day. They didn't show up, and upon checking the following morning, the delivery status said that they were delayed in their warehouse/depot.

It was a long weekend, so I waited until Tuesday to contact CANPAR, who said that the frames had been damaged in their warehouse, but couldn't tell me what the resolution was, or give me an estimate as to when I'd receive replacements.

On Wednesday, the frames arrived unexpectedly via Loomis at the wrong door of my home, where I found them several hours later. I brought them in and unpacked them, and found that the glass in two of the three was cracked.

I was out of time to deal with the re-order and re-shipping, so paid a different local Surrey business to cut two new pieces of glass for the otherwise undamaged frames, which cost me an additional $73.92.

All in all, the frames themselves are fine, very durable and quite usable, but the process for delivering them seemed pretty fraught with confusion and delay. Added to the delays was the extra cost, and the fact that I had to source double mats for them elsewhere because your price for the mats has gone up so much, and I'm rethinking Opus as my supplier of choice for these.

No Opus store near enough to me to go there and buy them or pick them up easily, so the shipping process is a big issue in the purchase.

Bring back plexi!

When I first discovered Opus Exhibition Frames back around 2018, I found they were a great way to frame and show my photography so that the art rather than the frame catches the viewer's eye. But one problem -- by the time I took down the exhibit, about half the frames had broken glass. Since then, I discovered that frames with plexiglass were a available for a slightly higher price. And since then, no broken glass. Late last year, I discovered Opus was discontinuing the plexiglass for the 18"X24" that I use. The good news was they were clearing out their stock of plexi frames at half price. I've now run out, so I'm forced to buy glass frames and pay another $30+ for a separate sheet of plexi that I can use when the glass breaks. So far, I've been unable to find a replacement as good as the Opus, but with plexi. I hope Opus listens to its customers and brings back the plexi option!

Exhibition frames

Super easy to assemble frames, and so clean. I can see how you have put some thought in designing these. It's very impressive. I will keep buying ready frames from Opus.

Very useful frames, but too bad plexiglass is being phased out

I've been buying Opus Metal Exhibition Frames for years now to frame my photography and transport it to different shows. It's a simple frame that's easy to assemble and it doesn't overpower my images. Initially, I broke a lot of glass until I discovered I could buy plexiglass for a few dollars more. No more breakage. Sadly, Opus is getting rid of the plexiglass, and your only option is now to wait until the glass breaks and then buy the plexiglass separately to replace it. I was lucky to get some remaining plexi frames at half price, but hopefully Opus will reconsider discontinuing that product. Glass is just too fragile for items that are often disassembled, reassembled and moved.
