Nontoxic, odor-free fixative praised by customers for having "no bad smell" and working well on pastels and watercolor. Mixed results on pencil drawings—works on sketch paper with light coats but may cause wrinkling on lighter-weight paper. Requires multiple thin layers with slow drying time. Some concerns about beading if over-saturated.

Works on pencil well

Unlike another reviewer, I used SpectraFix on a pencil drawing on sketch paper [only 96gsm] successfully. I gave a light spray from a good distance and repeated it after it dried. I like that it is not a spray can and doesn't have obnoxious chemicals.

Pastel Fixative

I bought this to lock down the pastels that I use in mixed media works. It is a nontoxic low odor option fixative. It works but is very time consuming as it takes multiple fine layers to be affective with slow drying time. If you have the time to let multiple layers dry before progressing this is for you, however I have reverted to more toxic and smelly fixatives when I need to move more quickly.

No, no, no

Do not buy if you are using pencil on lighter weight paper. I followed the directions on the back precisely. It's application is a wet spray and it rumpled the paper of my 15 hour pencil drawing. I would not buy it again, I would not use it again, I would never recommend it. It also left water droplet marks on the drawing. Horrible, absolutely horrible. I cannot sell the drawing now. I paid approx $30 to ruin my 15 hour drawing.

Works as promised

Time will tell if there is any discoloration over time, but it works well as a workable fixative, especially if you're working in an environment where aerosols aren't an option.
There is higher risk than with aerosols of beading and dripping, so be very mindful of distance to canvas and not to over saturate.

Good fixative

I have used this on my watercolor paintings and it has not lifted the colour. I appears to protect the painting quite well. I would recommend it.
