The story behind Blackwing Pencils

Half the pressure, twice the speed. The cult pencil reborn.

The original Blackwing 602 appeared in the 1930s and won a devoted following among writers, animators and composers for its smooth, dark line. When it went out of production, used pencils changed hands for remarkable sums.

Revived in 2010 by California Cedar Products, today's Blackwings combine top graphite and cedar with the signature flat ferrule and replaceable eraser.

Try it in the studio

Use the soft, dark graphite for loose gestural sketches. Pull out the eraser and slide it forward as it wears, then replace it when it is spent.
