The story behind Beam Paints

Handmade watercolour from M'Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island.

Beam Paints was founded by painter Anong Migwans Beam in M'Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. The idea came after she shared images of gathering rock and pigment with her sons.

Lightfast pigments, tree sap, gum arabic and Manitoulin honey come together in saturated, handmade watercolours that combine traditional and modern knowledge. They are a joy to paint with.

Try it in the studio

Mist the paint cookies a minute before painting. The honey keeps them rewetting beautifully, and the colours are best built up in layers.
