Celebrating the magnificent awakening of spring, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival presents Plein-Air Blossom Painting classes every Saturday from 11am to 2pm at VanDusen Botanical Garden, between April 2nd and April 23rd. Plein-Air Master, Alfonso Tejada’s focus is to present a variety of approaches by different artists to painting outdoors, using watercolour, pastel, oil and acrylic at one of the most beautiful gardens. Working outdoors creates a refreshing atmosphere for students to “sense” the spirit of a location and explore the presence of nature by selecting a piece of that world and capturing it in their work. Plein-Air inspires both novice artists and those who are more seasoned and perhaps searching for a new approach to their art. It is a chance to discover changing light, colour, form and nature’s composition while developing a personal style of painting. Experienced, high caliber Plein-Air instructors who are members of the Federation of Canadian Artists include Janice Robertson, Tatjana Mirkov-Popovicki, Alan Wylie and Alfonso Tejada. The cost is $45 per class or $175 for all four sessions.
