Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival 2015

2015 New Spring Plein-Air Blossom Sessions

The 2015 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s (VCBF) Plein-Air Session will be an exceptional celebration of beauty in the city, with participants painting outdoors, searching for the colours and majestic images of the cherry trees in bloom this spring.

The Plein-Air Session is an opportunity to open our eyes, and with our full senses discover the richness of the world always present. It is a time to break away from seclusion and be inspirited by the beauty that surrounds us.

Participants will be guided to use their creative spirit to explore and discover the beauty of the season, making these sessions a memorable experience of time and shared moments of friendship with other artists. All skills levels are welcome.

This new 2015 format will assist participants in the exploration and expression of their creativity during Saturdays and Sundays, each with a different instructor, working in watercolour, acrylics, oils and sketching.

An exciting new event, Plein-Air Challenge, will take place on the opening day of Sakura Days Japan Fair on Saturday, April 11, providing participants with an opportunity to interpret the activities of the Festival. Just three hours after being painted, sketches, watercolour, acrylic, oils and mixed media will be accepted for jury. The jury will be comprised of 3 prominent plein-air artists who are members of the Federation of Canadian Artists, including Robert McMurray, Caren Heine and Alfonso Tejada. Prizes will be awarded and presented by Opus Art Supplies on the same day.

During and after the jurying of the Plein-Air Challenge, invited jurors will perform demonstrations.

Our partner Opus Art Supplies will add a special touch to the event with a sampling of materials to all Plein-Air Challenge participants.

Visit our website at www.vcbf.ca for registration and information about the new Plein-Air Sessions and Challenge. Registration opens January 8 for every one of all levels of experience and preferred media with a passion or beginning passion for drawing or painting.
