The Gift of Time Gala for Canuck Place

December 1, 2009

The Gift of Time Gala in support of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice was a record breaking success. Held October 29th at the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver, this fundraiser featured many unique ways for the 600 guests to generously support the children and families of BC that are on the Canuck Place program.

Opus Framing & Art Supplies was integral to the success of one of the fundraising ideas. Artist Jolinda Linden provided guidance to the children at Canuck Place as they created 100 ceramic hearts using their precious hands. Once fired by Jolinda, the hearts were then glazed by the kids with her help, and that of brother-in-law Trevor. The finished hearts were mounted into shadow boxes which were generously donated by Opus!

Painted a bronze brown and set on to a matching painted easel these Precious Hearts became the centrepiece for each table at the gala. Following a feature presentation on the importance and use of the Arts and Crafts room at Canuck Place, each guest in the room had an opportunity to make a closed bid on the centrepiece. The highest bids in the entire room were lucky enough to take home a Precious Heart. Centrepiece bidding is always unique at the Gift of Time Gala, however this year’s very special piece helped to raise over $60,000 for the hospice! This is almost triple what was raised in previous years with the highest bid being over &$36;7,000!

Canuck Place is truly grateful to Opus Framing & Art Supplies for their incredible generosity. Success of this sort is always due to the contributions of many and we are so very thankful for the support of our community and surrounding businesses.
