Nice book, not great paper

Cellulose paper blend makes it hard to get the paint to absorb into the paper, won’t get it again

Amazing sketchbook :|: Postive and downsides :|:

There are many positive and downside to this sketchbook. I had got the more pricey one which is around 60 Canadian dollar with the more heavy paper. I have bought around 4 of the more pricey ones and been working with them for some time now.

The sketchbook is very nice to hold, the only issue I notice is that some types of people with certain texture issues may dislike it. It has around 60 pages and it last a long time. The smooth paper with a bit of weight is nice to hold has well. The sketchbook is also easy to carry around well traveling has well and stickers go on the cover really easy. I also tried painting the cover of the sketchbook and it works amazing.

The only downside is that the paper itself can actually be damaged pretty easy if you do page spreads. I also noticed near the end of the sketchbook useably the sketchbook paper bends and it is sometime annoying to close. There also an issue with drying and pooling in certain area well using watercolour. An example is placing a bunch of water and paint in a certain area and it wouldn’t try properly.

Even with its small downside and other issues I had with the sketchbook. I really recommend giving this sketchbook a try for those who love a good high quality sketchbook.

I give the sketchbook a 5/5 for any watercolour artist.

Great travel journal for watercolour enthusiasts!

When we first brought these journals in a few years go, I was intrigued by the sizes, amount of pages per journal, and the variety of paper weights and surface texture.

I'm now on my 3rd 140lb Watercolour journal from this brand and I love using it while on the go. The paper is nice and thick, doesn't buckle easily when doing light/medium washes and illustrative work, and holds up to standard erasing with a kneaded, art gum, or vinyl eraser. They fit perfectly into a purse, tote, or backpack and the clear plastic pocket on the back cover is great for holding the watercolour colour charts I made that go with my travel paint palettes. ^_^

One thing to note: a coworker of mine mentioned (we used to carry them years and years ago before bringing them back, this is the second round of Opus carrying the Hand-Book Journals) - Over time the elastic strap on the outside will slowly lose it's elasticity, most likely a latex-based rubber band that naturally breaks down, becoming brittle as the years pass. Just something to keep in mind - you may need to replace your strap if you don't go through sketchbooks quickly.

Overall though, really lovely book!
