New Workshops & Classes Section Live!September 29, 2010
Ten years ago we set out to offer a community space online that would facilitate visual arts community education: our Workshops & Classes section where art teachers and art students seeking art education in BC could link up. Though our site was on the cutting edge of technology at the time, without further refinements we found it lagging behind as the years went on. While we loved our old Workshops & Classes area, technology has advanced enough that we can offer something better, so we decided to do just that.
Introducing our NEW Workshops & Classes Section
Now when you click on the Workshops & Classes link in our How-To, Demos & Workshops menu (located at the top of every page of our site), you will be taken to a brand new page: our new Workshops & Classes section!
What do you get?
First, it makes it easier for students to find great workshops and classes offered throughout the province. Classes can still be searched by date, location and subject but can also be refined to include all those factors.
Second, instructor profiles can be detailed with information such as medium of choice, philosophy, or recent exhibitions. Instructors can also post up to six samples of their work – like a mini online gallery. Potential students can view instructor profiles via a link in each course listing, and from the list of Current Instructors in the new Workshops & Classes section.
And for those instructors that have been using our old service, you no longer have to wait for approval before your courses are posted. Just sign up for an Art News Profile, and you can begin posting new courses (or copying your old ones over from the old Workshops & Classes section) at your leisure.
Wait – what about my old course information?
Sadly, we are not able to bring the information from that section over to the new one as there are many technical hurdles we are not able to overcome efficiently. To those of you who have recently taken the time to post new content to our old Workshops & Classes section, we are very sorry for any inconvenience. That said, we feel strongly that the look and organization of our new Workshops & Classes (especially the profiles!) will be attractive enough that you will want to set up an Art News Profile so you can use the new section right away.
We will keep the old Workshops & Classes section up and running until November 30, 2010. We highly encourage Instructors to migrate to the new Workshops & Classes before the end of October so you can continue to enjoy this free exposure for your course offerings.
Registration for Courses
As before, we are providing these listings as a free service to the community – all instructors will be responsible for handling their own logistics, registration and payment arrangements (you must provide this information whenever you create a new course).
We hope you enjoy the new Workshops & Classes!
We think the new section is fantastic and are excited to share it with you. We are very happy to provide the art community with a place for instructors and students to find one another. Keep learning and creating, everyone!
