Make It! The Handmade Revolution

October 26, 2010

Make It! The Handmade Revolution returns to Vancouver November 19th to 21st at the Croatian Cultural Centre (3250 Commercial Drive). This is a super awesome shopping experience that combines a craft show with a party! DJ Leanne will be spinning tunes while you peruse the 100 rock star artists & designers joining us from all over Canada. Since holiday shopping can be somewhat draining we encourage sipping on a glass a wine or beer from our bar. Plus it might loosen you up enough to indulge in a little shopping for yourself too. Hey, you deserve it!

The vibe at Make It is funky, cool, upbeat and most of all fun! We want to showcase Canada’s best and brightest indie designers in an environment that does their work justice. Why shop at an over crowded generic mall when you can interact directly with the creator of the item you are about to buy? Hearing their story is not only incredibly inspiring but also makes the experience memorable and satisfying. Supporting designers and artists is also a great way to stimulate the economy and love the earth since many use up-cycled and recycled materials. Basically holiday shopping at Make It is a win-win situation all around!

Make It is produced by my brother Chandler and I from our office in historic Gastown. We also produce shows in Edmonton and Calgary biannually. Since we both are designers our initial inspiration was to create a fun and exciting event our friends would want to come to. It seemed like a lot of the crafts shows we were selling at were very traditional and stuffy. We thought if there was a more modern and hip concept that combined some key party elements it would attract a fabulous new demographic who were not typical craft show goers. Our formula worked in spades and Make It became an instant hit attracting thousands of enlightened shoppers!

Another amazing aspect of Make It is tying in the community and working with other like-minded businesses. Opus has always been an amazing supporter of Make It right from the start. It feels so great to have a partner that is also enthusiastic about inspiring creativity in individuals. Another important element of Make It is raising money for charities through a silent auction. Our incredible designers at the show generously donate all items for our silent auction. In the past we have raised thousands of dollars for organizations like BC Cancer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, SPCA, Canadian Kidney Association and many others. We feel like it is a very important element of Make It and are very proud of the money that has been raised.

Chandler and I are both sure pumped for our upcoming Make It show in Vancouver and are excited about all the fantastic local and national exhibitors who will be there. Expect to find something for everyone on your list. From clothing, accessories, art, jewelry, baby items and tons of other handmade goodies. We hope you can make it.
