Gillian McConnell

Art By Gillian
BFA (Hons) Queen's University at Kingston

Gillian emigrated to Canada from Australia in 1964. Her family settled in Montreal, which was wonderful for an aspiring young artist, except in winter, which was dismal―and had the cheek to return each year with the precision of a boomerang.
She attained a Bachelor of Fine Art (with a major in printmaking - predominantly etching - and a minor in art history) from Queen’s University at Kingston Ontario (1980).
Gillian took up painting in 1997 and developed her own visual signature using paint, photography and collage. She expanded her art practice to include found object assemblage and installation art in 2008.
Despite her strong visual aesthetic, for Gillian the message is more important than the medium. She explores political, cultural, psychological and spiritual issues, with a particular interest in an underlying theme of dichotomy as an illusion.
