Fur or feathers, hooves or paws, from her own companion animals to the wild creatures she encounters, animals fascinate artist Deborah Strong and fuel her creative passion. This life-long Fraser Valley artist has been working at her craft since she could first hold a pencil. She has formal training in both fine arts and in graphic communication, and is a Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Ranging from portraits of domestic animals to depictions of birds and other wild creatures, Deborah's own collection of four-legged companions often features in her art. Sightings of wild birds and animals—both in her home region and abroad—offer ongoing and often unexpected inspiration.

Deborah works primarily in two art media: coloured pencil and hand-painted silk. Her coloured pencil drawings emphasize fine detail and accuracy, while the essence of her silk paintings lies in simplified forms and vibrant, flowing colour. Both involve strict attention to detail and a methodical approach to the application of the materials.

Deborah has an extensive exhibition record, participating in numerous juried exhibitions, art festivals and other events. Highlights include winning first prize for her drawing "Solitary Steller’s Jay" at the Coloured Pencil Society of Canada’s national exhibition in Ottawa in 2012. She regularly exhibits at the Federation Gallery in Vancouver.

Deborah currently divides her time between south Surrey and Mayne Island and has art studios at both locations.
