I am drawn to the drama of opposing forces and the lack of predictability that ensues. In my abstract work, this lack provides for me both a purpose and a challenge: Control the chaos.

My work is largely an attempt to convey spatial order with the cooperation of shape, colour, texture and line. The reductive nature of this elemental, visual language allows me to disassemble archetypical structures in order to create compositions both “void and solid”. My meaning making relies heavily on the simplicity of geometric forms and on the premise that fundamentally, it is a “fine balance” that matters most to me.

My process, like my philosophical approach to abstraction, begins with purposeful opposition. A limited palette of complementary colours, oil mixed with wax, geometric forms atop organic backgrounds and, in my 3 dimensional pieces, transparent glass paired with solid metals. The resulting artworks often appear fragmented, disconcerting and a little precarious; fragile shapes floating in incongruent settings or machine-like contraptions held together by a thread with a mere nod to stability and function.
