Cindy Mawle

The Studio in Qualicum Bay
FCA Active member 2005

Cindy grew up in the small community of Sooke BC on the southern end of Vancouver Island, amongst a playground of forests and beaches. Her adventurous, independent and determined nature as a child evolved into the driving force behind her creativity today.
The encouragement from a high school art teacher opened Cindy’s eyes to the world of art and set her forward onto her path. For 15 years Cindy collected art supplies in a wooden chest and practiced drawing, referring to art instruction books for direction.
The poor BC economy pushed Cindy to move to Didsbury Alberta in 1987. In 1993, when her daughter was 6, a few parents prompted Cindy to teach drawing and painting to their children, which eventually turned into 9 years of art classes. She taught ages 6 + and eventually adults in her studio while working as an optician and raising her daughter.
Cindy supplements her self taught journey with workshops facilitated by talented established artists. She chooses those artists by finding a particular “edge” in their work that she feels she can utilize for her own growth. Cindy has worked in pastel , watercolour, pen and ink, but acrylics have held her steadfast since 1995.
Cindy displays her paintings and works out of her own “Studio in Qualicum Bay” 5320 West Island Hwy. She also teaches small group workshops within the gallery.
Cindy has held solo exhibitions and has been accepted in numerous juried shows including Sooke and Sidney Fine Arts. Cindy is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Arrowsmith Chapter and is a resident artist at The Old School House Gallery, Qualicum BC. (TOSH 10) Her work is also represented in “Artfitters Gallery ” on Bowen Rd, Nanaimo BC.
