Artist’s Bio – Caroline James

Caroline started out her formal education doing a degree in biology but soon shifted her attention to her life long passion of painting. She graduated from the University of Victoria with a B.F.A. (hon.) in 1996 and was subsequently accepted into the M.F.A program at the University of Saskatchewan on a full scholarship. She graduated in 2001 garnering the Govenor General’s award for Art’s and Humanities for her graduate exhibition and written thesis.

Caroline quickly obtained professional gallery representation and began teaching painting at the Victoria College of Art where she developed the curriculum for Free Expression Painting. She has been teaching workshops and painting professionally for 10 years and lives with her partner and two black labs on Hornby Island where she also indulges her other passions for gardening and keeping chickens.
