Exploring Encaustic / Bethany Handfield Creative Arts

Hello Beautiful Creative Friend

My name is Bethany and I am an Okanagan artist and teacher who primary works with mixed media and encaustic. I love to use found objects and up-cycled materials in my work as a way to reclaim the discarded and give new life to the forgotten.

Through my Exploring Encaustic series of art classes, I guide students on their journey using the medium of encaustic in a safe and knowledgeable setting.

My other passion is teaching and working with mixed media. It is so delicious!

I have had solo art exhibitions at the Penticton Art Gallery, Penticton City Council Chambers & Summerland Art Gallery as well as numerous dual and group shows.

I love to put on themed shows - the latest being the Intimate Dream Collective at the Penticton Arts Council (2016)- and also volunteering my time with those who have barriers to creating art.

It was a great honor to be the winner of the Thea Haubrich Award for Best in Show at the 2014 Waxing Poetic exhibition! I have also had nominations for the past 3 years for Arts Educator with the Penticton Art Council's Art Awards and was trilled to be nominated int he Visual Arts category this year.

In 2015 I was the Meadowlark Nature Festival artist of the year and was so excited to share my little meadowlark family.

I you would like to know more about me, take a class or explore encaustic, please contact me at the links below.

Have a wonderful day!
