Using Sketchbooks as Inspiration for Larger Paintings with Victor Lotto

Sat, February 2, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Sat, February 2, 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

January 25, 2019 – Please note: Both of these demonstrations are now full and no further registration will be taken. Thank you for your interest!

This demonstration will review techniques for drawing and painting in sketch books while traveling.

Victor will cover the qualities of various sketch books, the palette, brushes and the use of specialized pens. He travels with a very small supply of materials and will provide useful tips for packing. He has painted throughout Canada, Europe and Latin America. Each country can be described as having local idiosyncrasies for painters; an important aspect which some instructors tend to neglect. Attendees will have an opportunity to examine several of Victor's Sketch books. Using a limited amount of materials Victor will create a watercolour painting from a sketch book to a larger format.

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus Victoria or contact them at 250‑386‑8133 or toll free 1‑800‑524‑6555 to register.

For 35 years Victor Lotto served as a Canadian diplomat including assignments as Canadian Ambassador to Venezuela and the Dominican Republic and Canadian Consul General in Sao Paulo Brazil. Vic always had his paints and brushes at each posting and a move to the University of Victoria as adjunct professor, International Business, afforded him more time to paint in watercolour and acrylics. Vic has studied at the Ottawa School of Art and attended workshops with Tony Couch, Christopher Schink, Ken Campbell, Jack Reid and Harry Heine. His paintings have been exhibited at the Department of Global Affairs, the Ottawa School of Art , the Source of Art in Ottawa, Hart House and Victoria College in Toronto, Galerie Goodchild in Renaze, France, The Art Gallery of greater Victoria and the Eclectic and Polychrome Galleries in Victoria. He has had 5 solo shows and is a regular painter in Paint Ins at TD Moss St and Bowker Creek. For several summers Vic was resident artist on BC Ferries "Queen of the North". In the past few years Victor has painted in Canada, France, Britain, California, Italy and Mexico. He is past President of the Victoria Sketch Club, an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, an associate of the Canadian Painters in watercolour, a member of the Community Arts Council of Victoria, and a founding member of the Oak Bay Artists Society.
