Painting on Raw Canvas with Paula Nishikawara

Downtown Vancouver
Sat, August 18, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Sat, August 18, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Discover the magic in the natural properties of materials.

We are taught to gesso our canvas, however, many people have never tried painting on raw canvas and often think it is not ‘o.k’? Join Paula as she demonstrates different ways of applying paint on a raw canvas – wetting the surface, and thinning of paint.

She will also talk about stretching on custom stretchers as Paula has often painted on the floor and stretched her piece afterwards to allow more freedom to paint. Being inspired by the connectedness of the material, Paula has found painting on raw canvas to be very organic. She feels it brings you closer to nature and this is what she is inspired and drawn to.

August 16, 2018 – Please note: The 12:00 PM demonstration has been cancelled.
There is still space in the 10:00 AM demonstration.

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus Downtown Vancouver or contact them at 604‑678‑5889 to register.
