Painting with Alcohol Inks with Fran Friesen

Location:
Langley
Sat, February 16, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Sat, February 16, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

February 04, 2019 – Please note: Both of these demonstrations are now full and no further registration will be taken. Thank you for your interest!

The fluidity and vibrancy of Alcohol Inks can be manipulated to create beautiful abstract paintings. They can also be controlled for more impressionistic realism.

Join Fran as she demonstrates how she brings out an image by moving the paint around to add or subtract colour. Learn how she chooses her colours, applies them, and then let the inks ‘speak’ to her as they flow together on the surface.

Fran will demonstrate creating detail using various tools, compressed air, straws, brushes, and skewers to get different effects. She will also demonstrate using various impervious surfaces such as Yupo Paper, ceramic tile, metal or glass. You will see how you can use inks with gels and modeling paste to add dimension, and use Molotow pens to draw patterns on the dried alcohol - achieving a lovely effect.

Come discover how exciting it is to loosen up and let the ink move - right before your eyes!

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus Langley or contact them at 604‑533‑0601 to register.

Although I have been a painter most all of my life, graduated from Emily Carr in 1995, I have done little in the way of abstraction. I was looking for a change so I Googled abstraction, came across the paintings with alcohol inks, saw some online demos and was captured! The colors exciting like the colors of flowers and sunsets, rainbows and so alive! Yet thinned out with alcohol and Extender the inks can be very soft and subtle too.
