Graffiti, grunge, or street art ... whichever you want to call it, offers inspirations for utilizing many mixed media materials and techniques.

Even though graffiti is considered ‘unsanctioned’ art work, Carney will sanction scribbling, scratching, smearing, typography, scraping, stencilling, wiping, deconstructing, collage and more, in this demo!

Working on canvas with acrylic paints and an assortment of commercial and found materials, Carney will use her actual photos from a recent trip to NYC as a basis for this presentation. How to first of all identify elements of ‘grunge.’ Then, using these ideas & assorted mixed media materials/techniques, develop layers of interest into a graffiti inspired work of art.

Learn how to develop an ‘eye’ for texture, beauty in grunge, and how to interpret some of what you see and can appreciate into a mixed media artwork. Also, some basic techniques such as: collage, application of paint with and without brushes, mark making, typography use.

Space is limited and registration is required.

Carney Oudendag is an artist and teacher who has been working with mixed media and collage for over 20 years. She has a collector’s spirit because she believes what she can find and scrounge is far more interesting than anything she can buy! On a recent trip to NYC she took many photos of grungy inspirational images and is basing some new works and her Opus demo on these beauties.
