Magical Mediums with Cory Kinney

North Vancouver
Sun, March 4, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Sun, March 4, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Many painters feel that acrylic painting mediums are limited to the realm of the two dimensional canvas. In the demonstration, Cory Kinney will talk about his use of mediums in a variety of unusual settings. Participants will learn how to think about medium uses in non-traditional ways.

Cory will demonstrate how gels can be used not only to create peaks in paints, but also help build elaborate structures in three dimensional assemblage art works. He’ll discuss his use of interference pigments mixed with pouring mediums and casting resins to create realistic skin surfaces for his cephalopod series of paintings/sculptures. Finally, Cory will show how he uses pouring mediums and high flow acrylic paints to create large, brushless landscapes where colour and forms are poured and mixed on a horizontal surface to create bold, graphic paintings that instantly grab the eye.

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus North Vancouver or contact them at 604‑904‑0447 to register.

An award winning filmmaker, Cory Kinney originally studied art as a classical animator. Moving to the North Shore several years ago, Cory was inspired by the local landscape and took up acrylic painting but was not satisfied with the typical landscape paintings he found in the local galleries. He quickly began to develop his own unique style using unconventional materials and methods. His works have since shown in galleries throughout BC. He is currently working on a series of large, cephalopod themed sculptural paintings for the Vancouver Aquarium.
