Layers and Movements in Acrylic with Angie Marchinkow

Sat, May 26, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Sat, May 26, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

For Angie, painting isn't only in the wrist, which is why she usually paints large pieces. She will explain to you the mindset she uses to approach the canvas, and the choices and physicalities she explores as she applies and removes layers of paint.

She'll show you how she preps a canvas with texture and colour, then adds into it with many altered layers to create depth. Learn how creating this depth with these many layers will reveal an ongoing conversation within the piece.

Introduced to painting at a young age with guidance from her artistic father, Angie finds herself drawn to paint now more than ever. Known for her abstract acrylic paintings, she approaches painting with a “sculptor’s mindset,” using layers, shadows, and textures for expression. With their bold brushstrokes, bright colours, and energetically-layered features, her paintings convey the physicality of her practice. She aims to bring senses and memory to life and invites the viewer to connect their own meaning to her paintings.
