May 24, 2018 – Please note: We are sorry to announce that this demonstration has been cancelled. Thank you for your interest.

Dive into artist Mark Ollinger’s creative process as he gives a talk about his sculptural installation work. Discover how he manipulates text by hand and digitally, and uses a laser cutter to help create his intricate knotted text sculptures.

Growing up around carpentry, woodworking was always something Mark was heavily exposed to and interested in. As he grew his art practice, he developed a style that used a combination of his learned trades into the unique sculptural practice he has now. Mark's work, sculptural iterations of interwoven text, reflects both the traditional Celtic and Nordic knots, as well as contemporary graffiti.

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus Downtown Vancouver or contact them at 604‑678‑5889 to register.

Born in Calgary in 1988, Mark discovered his passion for art in his early teens and by graduation was committed to creating art on a daily basis. Mark eventually found himself working as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, and gained experience in silkscreening as well. His experience with these different areas helped inform the graphic nature of Mark’s current practice, combined with his previous woodworking experience. In 2015, he embarked on an ongoing body of unsanctioned public sculptural installations in Canada, as well as abroad including Melbourne, Los Angeles, Toronto and Montreal. Self taught, Mark now works full time as an artist based out of Vancouver BC since 2009.
